TITLE

I said it before and I’m going to say it again. It’s almost impossible to decipher what will happen in a Korean drama from just its title. I love how these drama titles add to its elegance.

BOYHOOD, I didn’t even know what to make of this title when I first saw it. Okay, I thought about a story that’ll show how a group of boys help each other navigate through life. It wasn’t it at all. I never expected a bullying story.

Anyway, I watched because it featured Yim Si Wan and Yim Si Wan never fails to get his flowers for his dramas.

CHARACTERS

-Jang Byeong Tae: I don’t want to describe this character just as “socially awkward”. Jang Byeong Tae was kind, nice, funny but most of all, weak. The first scene of him got me thinking he was the strong bully victims' saver only for him to get seriously whooped there and then Such a turn of events 😂

I’m in awe of how this character appreciates his friends and family and looks out for them always, How he doesn’t ditch school because he got whooped, I can say he won’t have an excuse for his parents when he was punished for impersonating The White Tiger but when he was punished for winning student president? It was too much for one person to bear, he hid his sadness well so as to not worry his family and friends I don’t know how he got through all that and I’m not crying, I swear

When he got stronger and started dealing with the bullies, I was overboard with happiness.

Yim Si Wan pulled this role excellently. I have always known him to lean towards the full action roles, and seeing him in this role left me open-mouthed. YIM SI WAN CAN DELIVER COMEDY? He is just good with this acting thing, I want to give him a big bouquet💐

-Park Ji Yeong: Black Widow is such a badass cutie. She was almost always angry with Byeong Tae whenever they had a conversation, but we know that was just a cover-up. Ji Yeong melted completely inside with Byeong Tae I want to talk about just them till I’m satisfied but I need to get serious 😌 Park Ji Yeong has to be my second favorite character from the drama. She looked out for Byeong Tae and pushed him to overcome his fear. Btw, guys! We only got hug scenes from them. Isn’t that a bit unfair?👀

-Jung Gyeong Tae: Our pretty villain. Is there a reason why the villain had to be damn fine??? For crying out loud, everyone is meant to hate him completely without consideration, right? Why did they have to make hating him a bit difficult??😭

Alright, alright, focus on the damn character, don’t let the looks sway you

How did he even turn to become the devil himself when I thought he was going to be friends with Byeong Tae and help him fight off the bullies. That was a very hard plot twist. I hated him so much when he became Byeong Tae's nightmare. The satisfaction of seeing Byeong Tae defeat him was wholesome.

Actor Lee Si Woo executed his cool-bad-boy-with-the-red-bag as White Tiger role perfectly too, obviously. Trying to think of ways to give the actor flowers without giving the character he portrayed, help me out

-Jang Seon Hwa: This character is a pretense, gold digger, whore, and everything bad. She can’t even sway me with her princess look, I hate her😠 The urge to scream my lungs out whenever Byeong Tae got sad because of her. And why wasn’t she caught pretending to live in that big house till the very end? Such a sly fox.

SCENES

-The last Byeong Tae/Gyeong Tae fight was very beautiful to watch. Byeong Tae's boldness accompanied by resilience was so top tier. I love how he laughed through it and made White Tiger irritated. He fought with the anger he had built up over the years and defeated the almighty White Tiger. Was that what satisfaction feels like?

Byeong Tae's motivation wood wheel

-I looked forward to Ji Yeong/Byeong Tae scenes throughout the ten episodes. It was satisfying to watch them bicker. From Byeong Tae's yogurt deliveries to her, her always picking up on him, crying in front of him and pushing him to do better to telling him he was special to him. Their scenes were simply golden.

-Jang Byeong Tae's dancing scenes. It was so very damn beautiful to watch. Actor Yim Si Wan could dance like that?😂 I kept asking myself that repeatedly 😂😂

SOUNDTRACKS

I'm a lover of good songs, the language notwithstanding Hell, yeah! The intro song got me more. It felt like a war song in honor of Blue Dragon, lol. I loveet!!

RATING-10/10

To be very honest, I almost went into a slump before I decided to watch BOYHOOD. I had high expectations of the drama and it didn’t fail at all.  As a matter of fact, the episodes' duration seemed too short, that is to show how much I enjoyed every one of them. I would have binge-watched everything in one day instead of the two days and a half it took me if I didn’t have house chores to attend to. How is BOYHOOD not even popular, the drama is so good.

It had so many comedic moments, that I was able to not cry so much from watching those bullies beat up students. Actually, when I found out the drama was centered around school bullying, I considered dropping it I’m yet to fully recover from the emotional damage WEAK HEROES CLASS 1 did me but they were comedic reliefs here and there, and touches of  undeveloped romance, it kept me going That guy pooed his pants after gotten beaten up, that was so hilarious

Byeong Tae’s facial expressions for the first seven episodes too were just so funny. Everything was captivating, I didn’t even know when the drama ended.

The director's "Cut. Okay” at the end left a huge smile on my face. I’m so glad I watched BOYHOOD

Cut. Okay.
