INTERNING WITH THE MOST “UNFRIENDLY” STUDENTS FROM MY CLASS

Hello, dear reader👋

The SIWES (Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme) program is compulsory training for students studying professional courses in high institutions designed to boost their practical ability in their various fields and I’m about to tell you how I wouldn’t have had it better with my colleagues for it...

Let's go for this ride

Before the internship period, I already planned to intern with a chemical company and work/learn from my father’s house or just anywhere outside of school and my school apartment. But I had to watch my plan fall through due to circumstances that couldn’t be helped. So, I had to intern with my department, in the laboratories, and from my school room.

At least, I’d be working with people I’m familiar with from my class but life happened again, I found myself with a group I only exchanged Hi's and Hello’s with once in a semester, semi-strangers.

The first day was blah, I couldn’t talk about anything with anybody. I just worked alone with instructions from the supervisor, smiled here and there for courtesy's sake, and left. It was awkward enough for me as the only female in the group (I just saw the next set of interns for the laboratories, there wasn’t just one female). Now, I had to deal with acting familiar with them all just because we came from a class. How do I even handle all of that?

Can I just sleep at home?

Then, it was barely two weeks into the period, my co-interns made it so easy to work together, I couldn’t believe it. We blended so we’ll in no time and with less stress. We learned all we could together him perfect unity. We took classes from our supervisors, were assigned duties in small groups, and sometimes, individually, gathered tree barks for biodiesel production as well as assisted in preparing starting materials for experiments. We learned about the principles and working of laboratory equipment and carried out numerous practicals together under supervision.

We had a lot of fun moments. Trolling those who refused to come regularly and on time, expressing our dissatisfaction with some activities openly amongst ourselves, playing games when we had breaks, eating together, and saying random jokes about each other were things I didn’t know I would do one day with these people.

Throughout the period, I never felt alone anymore. There were no disagreements whatsoever between any of us at any time (Non that I heard about), they just didn’t take it lightly with me (lol), especially this boy. The thing was, I didn’t play PES and lost almost any time I played the other game with them. So, they never failed to make fun of me and tease me with that at any given opportunity. It was painful but, fun at the same time anyways.

I was able to do three months successfully with the most amazing humans. It was all educative and fun.

To THE BOYS, for allowing us to keep it real and making it more pleasurable than I expected, for friendship and experience, CHEERS

And to you my dearest reader...
